About our Norwich Site
- The Generations Family Health Center of Norwich site is
located in 5,000 square foot section of the new Backus Hospital
Medical Office Building in the City of Norwich in southeastern
Connecticut—population 36,693 (US Census 2005).
- The site opened its doors in July 1994 under the State’s
Community Health Center Expansion Initiative. The site was
initially located over the emergency room at Backus Hospital until
April 1996. It then moved to 112 LaFayette Street for the next
three years until the Medical Office Building was complete at 330
Washington Street where the site now is located.
- The Norwich site continues to
grow at a rapid pace, providing 10,582 medical visits in FY2007.
- Three physicians and a nurse
practitioner staff the site.
- In 2000, Generations received a
federal grant award to develop Health Care to the Homeless
services in the Norwich area. Generations works closely with the
Norwich Community Care Team to provide primary health care
services to complement the strong homeless service delivery system
in existence in Norwich. Through collaboration with Backus
Hospital, a mobile van travels to the soup kitchen and local
shelter to provide outreach, primary health care and mental health
services.
